MPS was awarded the Horizon Power DER Onslow project in December 2018, and it began in February 2019.
This photovoltaic (PV) solar project involves installing 2.83 MW of power for group housing and commercial buildings.
Individual PV systems with battery storage will be set up for the majority of residential and commercial buildings in Onslow. These systems are designed to generate 2.83 MW of power with a capacity of 0.8 MW per hour.
All installed systems will be connected through an advanced solar gate control system, enabling virtual power network functionality. This network will be monitored and managed by Horizon Power, the retail network operator. The Distributed Energy Resource Management (DERM) system allows the network operator to regulate the power flow for each individual battery and inverter in relation to the grid.
This pilot project is pioneering distributed energy management in Australia. It is significantly increasing photovoltaic hosting capacity and enhancing grid stability for small power networks and microgrids.
